If exercise is at the top of your new year’s resolution list, you’ve come to the right place.
PureGym at Urban Exchange is designed with you in mind, from the layout of the gym to the equipment and classes available.
We caught up with a personal trainer at PureGym and they gave us their ten top tips for a successful fitness routine:
1. Don’t Skip The Warm Up
Warming up enables you to be more mobile in the gym. Once you learn to move your joints safety, you can use weights with confidence.
2. “Be consistently good, not occasionally brilliant”
Being repeatedly good with exercise and healthy living is far better than being occasionally disciplined.
So if you’ve overindulged on the wine, don’t panic – remember, you want a healthy lifestyle that’s attainable!
3. Skip the supplements
Don’t fall victim to those Instagram ads, most supplements out there lack evidence to support their use.
You should always consult with a GP, doctor, physician or other health care professional before starting any supplementation program!
4. Listen to your body
Only through recovery can your exercise routine reach its full potential.
In other words, don’t forget to prioritise downtime – listen to your body and make sure you’re getting enough sleep.
5. Don’t beat yourself up if things don’t go to plan
At some point along the fitness journey, things don’t go to plan but it’s important to remember that’s okay and minor hiccups are all part of the process.
6. Make kettlebells your new best friend
Incorporating weights into your routine offers movement in whatever you’re doing, whether it’s squatting or press ups.
7. Adopt the ‘SMART’ approach
SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and
Timely.
Ultimately the most achieve diet plan is one that’s ‘smart’, enjoyable and easy to stick to long-term.
8. No Pain, No Gain – Myth?
Being sore after a workout does not indicate a good workout. In fact, post-workout pain can be the main reason you’re not being consistent in your routine.
9. Utilise the staff
If you’re unsure how to use a machine or just simply have a question regarding your fitness routine, ask the staff! They’re on-hand to assist you and introduce you to the range of machines and equipment available
10. Walk, Walk, Walk
Never underestimate the power of walking! Obviously if you’re in the gym, a high intensity sprint may offer better results but walking is a more practical goal when you’re out and about.
